So, Jaku came to Michigan to visit for a few days. He arrived Sunday evening, Cari (his new girlfriend) along with him. He stayed until yesterday. Most of the trip was streamed live on Ustream.tv using the EDGE capability on his Apple iPhone; a laptop equipped with a USB 3G card, and a patient Cari: to type to everyone in the chat room, and relay their messages.
Yesterday, before heading back home, he stopped by long enough to finish a Japanese Mario clone that was giving us all kinds of trouble the day before. After that, we shopped around at Circuit City and Best Buy for a while. Sasuga came too. Cowtoo pointed out that we must’ve looked like a pretty strange group. Jaku and Cari dressed in long black overcoats; Sasuga with his red hat; Cowtoo with her dramatic red and black scarf; and me, trying to look inconspicuous.
Tuesday, Jaku visited for a while as he waited for Chris to get out of work. That’s when we were introduced to the Mario-like game mentioned above. Once we had been tortured enough, we headed over to Red Robin to meet up with Chris and Jen for dinner. I had a ridiculously big BBQ burger, (which I regretted later.) For some reason, Jaku had it set in his mind to pretend that it was Sasuga’s birthday. So, Sasuga ended up (after being serenaded by Red Robin staff members) with a free desert. After dinner, Jaku, Cari, and Sasuga went back to Chris’ place after dropping me off at home. I had to be home in time to see the new episode of House!
It was good to see Jaku in town again. There isn’t much going on around here normally, so the visit kind of livened things up for a while. It’s always sad to see everyone go. Since Wednesday is when Cowtoo visits, it made watching everyone go harder.
Jaku is currently planning to invest in twenty-four hour streaming (or close too it.) It will be interesting to see how that plays out, and if it will improve the ability of friends and family to experience, vicariously, the adventures of Jaku.
