Bill Gates' Mosquito Stunt At TED

It's all over the place: news that Microsoft's former CEO Bill Gates released several male mosquitoes during a speech on malaria. While word plays involving bugs and cracks by Mac users about viruses are among the most prevalent comments, no one seems to have noticed another very important parallel. So I'll add my two cents here. The day the speech was given on was none other than the anniversary of the infamous pie day in Brussels Belgium. Coincidence?

Secrets of the Duel!

The purpose of this post is to share a few things I have learned about the ‘pop-up duel’ portion of the Nintendo DS title Chocobo Tales. The information I’m sharing here is by no means complete, as I have not yet completed the game, nor unlocked every available card. For now, I’m merely recording a few strategies I’ve developed, and some ideas that have worked for me. I’m writing this with the assumption that the reader is familiar with the basics of ‘pop-up’ card dueling, and has already completed a few.

I’d like to begin by discussing decks for in-game battles.

When building a deck for in-game battles, (those between you and computer controlled opponents,) the player should focus on an element that goes contrary to the element of the player’s opponent. This is limited only to boss battles, however, and should not be used against every in-game opponent (such as Dueler-X). When dealing with boss battles, it is possible to determine the element of an opponent before the battle, giving the player ample opportunity to prepare. When preparing a deck for such a battle, I recommend stocking up with cards which simultaneously defend against the opposing element’s attacks, and return the favor with a devastating counter-attack, or a strong offensive attack. To accomplish this, the player should glance at some of the cards belonging to the opposing element in the player’s own collection to gain some concept of the attacks that the player is likely to see during battle. Develop a strategy accordingly. If, for example, the player’s opponent is using mainly earth-based attacks; be sure to choose cards which have a shield icon in the green circle of the card, while either offering a counter-attack when that shield is attacked, or, launching an offensive attack to the opponent’s weak-spot after a successful defense. To the best of the player’s ability, the player should try to anticipate, and prepare a defense against the opposing element’s attacks. In short, when choosing an attack card, anticipate possible weaknesses and choose carefully. When choosing a defensive card, be sure not only to choose a card which defends against the opposing element’s attacks, but one which counter-attacks, inflicts a status-effect, causes some other loss to the opponent, or which benefits the player in some way (by restoring HP, for example).

There are a few exceptions to what I have detailed above. In the game’s first major boss battle, the player is pitted against an enemy based on the fire element. At that point the player has not been provided with cards which normally oppose the fire element. The only choice, then, is to use a similar strategy with cards of any available element.

This brings up an interesting point. There are several ways to accomplish the strategy mentioned above, especially after the player has collected a greater number of cards. Many times, cards which are not part of the element opposite the opponent’s cards may be used to defend against them. Also, it is common for cards of one element to require CP from an opposing element – like a fire element card which requires fire and earth CP, for example. In this case, I would first build a deck which will successfully defend against the element which I will battle as mentioned above; then, I will fill the last few empty slots in my deck with cards that will provide CP for my main cards, while defending against attacks which I except to encounter.

Finally, I will briefly discuss the creation of decks for non-boss in-game battles, and player battles.

I have found, after attempting to create a strategic deck, that I am apt to forget something important. When focusing heavily on minute strategic details, I end up spreading myself to thin, and once the battle beings, I usually find that there is some critical flaw which I overlooked. Because of this, I recommend that a player not try to anticipate every little thing when taking on an opponent whose strategy it is not possible to anticipate; or in situations where a great variety of cards can be expected to appear from an opponent’s hand. In these cases, I feel it is best, at this point, to remain straightforward in developing a deck. To make sure that, regardless of the cards I choose, they are all well defended, and well supplied with CP for the final moments of the battle. If a player really favors strategy, the best recommendation I can give at this point is to formulate a deck which makes extensive use of debilitating cards like CP crushers, CP ability silencers, restorative cards, cards which steal CP from an opponent; and cards which inflict status-effects. Once those cards are in place, hopefully the player still has space for damage dealing cards to make use of any CP gained.

This brings me to my final deck type: the balanced deck. I have yet to build a properly balanced deck which is not deficient in some way. It seems that there are always sacrifices and trade-offs which must be made. Chance, it seems, is also a crucial factor. With most of the balanced decks I’ve attempted to build, the cards I’ve chosen defend in a satisfactory way, but do not deliver enough damage or debilitating blows early in the match, giving my opponent too much time to prepare devastating CP attacks. Unless you are very meticulous, I can not exactly recommend the balanced deck approach.

That is all for now. Thank you for reading, and I hope to add more later on as I seek to master the art of the duel! Happy dueling!

Marisa stole the precious extra mode!

So last night I managed to beat TH8 extra mode 3 times! Which means I unlocked another "Last Word" spell!

Also I started playing this weird game for the DS called Deep Labyrinth. Its a first
person dungeon crawler with a pretty lamer story plot and a sorta glitchy magic
system, but for what ever reason its still pretty fun.

Today I woke up around 3pm again. Not much has happened outside of the computer
besides a walk with my dad. The weather was awesome today so it made for a great
walk. We ended up talking about some random stuff and headed back to the house.

Also I managed to beat TH8 on hard with Reimu/Yukari pair! So I'm real happy
about that. Also I beat Extra mode again with Yukari solo and ended up unlocking
another two spell cards for spell practice mode! so thats really awesome!

Anyway, I'm gonna finish up with this post and do some school work.

guren kaina is Enchanted (TURN VOLUME DOWN! ITS LOUD!)

Lol.... Don't ask what got into me when I decided to make this, but I just had
to... So here it is! @_@ Lord CCO would be proud no doubt.

Whats up with Toal!

So my cousins reminded me that Ys was coming out for DS and I'm all like "Oh snap! I totally forgot" so anyway, I found this article on it so scope it out kay?

http://www.the-magicbox.com/0710/game071028f.shtml

MokouTan kawai

So yesterday, I decided to delete my score.dat for TH8 (basically deleting all saved data; So deleting unlocked data) Cause when I first downloaded TH8, it came with a
score.dat that had extra mode and stuff unlocked. So basically I just wanted to start
from scratch so I can get better at the game.

So for most of yesterday, I was playing TH8. I actually managed to beat route A story
for all four teams which is pretty kewl. At first I thought to unlock Extra mode you
would need to beat the Hourai elixer spell card, which is really tough since you need
to survive for like 70 seconds! But I ended up finding out that you just gotta beat
route B without using a continue (Route B is the good ending)

Later that day I ended up taking a walk since it was really nice out! It ended up
turning cold which is why I'm happy I took a walk when I did.

When I got back, I started playing some more TH8 to unlock some extra junk. Thats
when the strange idea popped into my head to beat TH7 Phantasm mode with no focus!
(Focus is a cool system added in TH6-10 and so on.)

1.Focus slows you down making it much easier to dodge danmaku
2.Your attack is doubled and shrinks your attack zone
3.In TH7 and after you get a little red dot which shows where your hit zone is

Without focus
1.you move faster
2.attack is weak
3.can't see hit zone red dot

So I decided to tackle this challenge with Reimu B since B is still strongish
without focus and Reimu moves pretty slow without focus. So after 3 tries
I managed to do it! (For what ever reason the dog decided to stare at me
which made me loose one life!) I'm planning on putting up a video of it
later!

So after watching a episode of Kenshin with Shinaki, I decided to work on
the blog post for the night, but that didn't end up happening mainly cause
when I can't do something I get annoyed and don't want to move on till its
done. In this case, it ended up being a problem with finding a site to host
.swf files for free. So I spent like 40 minutes with that, and in the end I
failed. So I ended up not posting anything at all which is why I'm posting
this spam in one post! X_X

So today I finally found a free file hosting site called Fileden which sounds
a little bit like something else lol... I had a problem with that at first
but I think I have it all figured out now! So now I can finally post flash
stuff on the blog yay!

Also since I ended up staying up till 4:30ish cause I couldn't sleep; I ended
up being a zombie today and woke up all early for church. I was trying to tell
dad how much I dislike repetitive messages in church, because for one its like
I GET THE POINT OK!!!! GOSHHHHH! ARGHHHHHFHAKJFHAKFJWHKFj and it ends up taking
like 2 hours or something for the service to end and it drives me blarghishness
Anyway, sunday class before that mess was good so I'm probably going to read
through all the verses on the paper I got from class. But after that it was just
a battle to stay awake! So finally we got home and I pretty much crashed till
8pm; I could hear dad asking if I want to go but I wall nghhh bllhhhhhghghgh,
So I ended up not going in the end. Now that I think about it, I don't think
I've gotten much sleep all this week with all the madness going on with gramps
and such so thats leh.

Before I fell asleep today, I decided for what ever reason to try extra mode
with on TH8 and to my surprise I actually beat it! So that basically blew my
mind! I tried beating it again but failed pretty hard (I'm just happy I beat
it once for now but I'm sure I'll be working on getting better at it again.)

Well I think I covered most every thing for yesterday and today so with that
I close my rant and post.

Stuff

So last Friday, I went to grans house with Shinaki to meet up with my cousins that I almost
never see in person. *cry* Well thats ok, its probably healthy not to be around them for
a long time anyway lol... So they, brought the Wii and Brawl! So I got a chance to play it
for a couple days straight! yays!

Its actually a lot like melee in a lot of ways but better
pretty much. I haven't actually played Melee in a really long time, so I'm terrible now,
but it was fun anyway.

I watched this random anime with them on the last day called Outlaw star which is
actually pretty funny, but it spammed borderline pronzorz.

So right around 12am, Gramps starts spamming for granz which I kinda thought
was odd in a way but I didn't really bother to check or anything.

So in the end
he had a stroke or something, so we had to go to the hospital and stand in the hall
for a longish time.

So after waiting like a while, this one nurse person is all telling
us to wait in the room where gramps is.

So I searched for the seat asap cause mylegs were all tired and such.
So I decided to scope out my jp rad flashy cards wellwe were waiting cause its pretty boring
otherwise and I woulda fell asleep prolly...

Seems every one hates the sound of those machines making the beeping noise,
But it doesn't seem to bother me at all ( I actually kinda like it lol...)

So finally gramps was brought back in the room and every one was talking to him.
His left arm (I think) was really borked where he couldn't move it very well as well
as his eye and mouth, also his speech was really fail, but anyway I didn't say anything.
Later mom and dad got there and were talking to him and such and it was pretty crowded.

I also noticed all the people there were extremely old which kinda makes me not want
to be old cause the body fails really hard when you get older it seems...

So I went back to grans house with dad, the cousins, and Shinaki. So we chilled there for
a while. Then all the suddent mom and dad decide that we should go home for some really
lame reason. So that was really lame.

On the way home I listened to some touhou music on my DS to stay awake (which works
really well actually.) We made it home around 4:30ish. I think the cats were happy to see
us home since they were all clingy and stuff.

I hopped on the comp soon after unpacking some of the junk on me and did some stuff
which can't recall lulz. Anyway, I managed to talk my cousins into letting me "borrow"
Ikaruga "for a very long time" MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I actually haven't played Ikaruga after the first night we got home, but one thing for sure
is that no matter how good I am at Touhou 7, that doesn't change the fact that I really bad
at Touhou 6, 8, and 9. So the same goes for Ikaruga; Its all about learning the patterns.
So thats going to take me a while to master... Not to mention our game cube is really
fail and old since it stalls in mid game play every now and then (I think this calls for
a nintendo Wii.) Oh well...

I totally forgot I had Ninja Gaiden well I was over at grans, so I never played it while
I was there, so I started playing that recently, and I gotta say! Its pretty epic and kewl.
Its a hack and slash action game and its really short but the battles are all pretty epic!

I managed to beat it today. The final boss has this really cheap attack right when its
down to the final hit; It grabs you with its mouth and totally owns you with is spam
blast attacks then it tosses you away, I ended up falling for this two times in a row,
and not to mention it was in the car which if I'm sitting up makes me really sick AND!
My battery on the ds was red! so it was a really epic battle! I ended up beating it on
the third try and saved just in time (I guess thats pretty good promo for ds batteries.)

Anyway, later today I managed to unlock Kuno"ecchi" mode! which is pretty tough
to unlock (its kinda funny if you go on gamefaqU and look at all the hate topics talking
about how hard it is to unlock that mode. Lemme give a run down on how to unlock it
well I'm spamming randomness.

1.Beat the game at least once
2.Survive the training battle with Ryu by rolling a lot till the time runs out
3.Beat the red dragon with girly ninja person (forgot name aready)

The strategy I used to defeat the dragon goes like this.

1.Run back a bit.
2. Double jump when the dragon starts running at you and do a air swallow (I think thats what its called...)
3.Roll twice
4.Double jump and air attack again
5.Do 3 and 4 over and over
The dragon should be locked into its run bite attack if you do it correct and will
probably only take around 3-5 tries because it works really well.

Anyway, I'm going to stop for now since its 4am and I'm tired from waking up
all early today from my trip to grans again.

One more thing. I'm planning on making a ffcc ROF item guide really soon, so
I'm hoping it'll work out real well! Anyway, GN and such.

Blog neglect

So I haven't posted ANYTHING in a little more then a week so thats pretty bad news for this blog! X_X So anyway heres the real topic of this post!

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I was looking through this one touhou picture board site and
I spotted a picture that looked kinda cool but I forgot what it was.
Anyway, I noticed there was a link to a site on the bottom right
corner, so I scoped it out. It seems to be a japanese news site
about umm... a lot of stuff lol... anyway well I was looking through
the site I noticed a add for Etrian Odyssey 2! Not 1 but 2!
So I'm all freaking out because I haven't even beat the first one!
BLAAAAAARGH!! anyway, once I'm done with Phoenix Wright 4
(Not Apalling Justice) but I'll talk about that in another post.
Anyway, back to topic. I'm gonna have to have to start working
on Etrian Odyssey, but I'm still obsessed with trying to solo the game
so I have no idea how thats going to work since I can't even beat
the final boss without 2 or more character... oh well I'll think of something
and soon lol.
-------LINKS-------------------
I'm probably going to put this up
in the links tab but here it is anyway!
http://dol.dengeki.com/

And also the link I found on the site
to Etrian Odyssey 2 ><

Rune Factory update

This is really really old so I'll call it "news" So onto the topic!

I recently beat the story to Rune Factory but I'm not really happy since I leveled up to lv99 and took the challenge away from the game, so thats kinda fail anyway.. Pretty much all thats left to do is get 10 points in friend and love and lv up all my craft skills to max, other then that I've pretty much owned the game but I would like to lv up the craft skills so when Shinaki plays I can give
him the better quips in the game!

Well thats it for now I think, I'll update the post if I think of anything.

My sound card = deff fail...

So I bought a sound card like two weeks ago or something and I was all happy cause I could finally record sound! but I found out not to long after that you need to have the sound control all the way up!!!!!! I personally think A bunch of uncle bobs were responsible for this epic fail! so like two days ago I started looking for head phones and couldn't decide if I wanted ear buds or headphones, so it took me like a day to actually decide that I wanted earbuds; they costed like 7 dollars + tax and shipping which made them go pass 10$... sigh.. anyway they have volume control and I'm really hoping that it works well or I'm gonna blow up. So later that day I went to get a folder to store all my drawings in. Well we were at Office Deplox I saw some headphones with volume control! So if the earbuds I bought online fail I'll probably send them back and get one at the office and hopefully! I'll be able to record some videos with sound FINALLY! blargh!!! ><

A devious idea!

I've decided to make a account on Deviant art so I can post all the stuff I've drawn and colored so I'm putting a link on the side that brings you to my page! I'm still going to post my pictures on here though just cause I like a big blog! I guess I should post the link in this post as well (CLICK HERE)

Drunkin Oni loli power!

I drew this on Saturday! Its Suika but with my own take on it! I'm missing
some of the Suika fetures but I still like it anyway. ^^v I wanted to put
her in a Miko costume but decided not to, so heres the finished product ehehe.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just finished this today! Its probably the best one I've done so far lol
(Also took 8 hours to finish...) but I'm really happy how it looks so enjoy!

Phantasmoé Casual Sketching

Since theres no text for this post I add some my self! ^^v
Well, I was messing around with something and decided to try drawing the hair on the character
in my wallpaper. It ended up looking quite different from what I wanted but I decided to keep it anyway since its probably a good habbit to do so. So Shinaki decided to try as well but it looks like his came out different from the picture as well! I was laughing when I noticed his drawing looked like lynette from Rune Factory! So I'm all like "Put a eye patch on her!" So it was funny and stuff lol. The source picture can be found (HERE)

Professor Crackpot and the Broken Clock

Here is the solution to the clock problem in
Professor Layton and the Curious Villiage:

(The day starts at 12:00 midnight)

AM 12:22 x1
-------------------
then

AM 01:11

through

AM 05:55 x5
-------------------
then

AM 10:00 x1
-------------------
finally

AM 11:10

through

AM 11:19 x10
-------------------
Add up the items to arrive at 17, then multiply by 2 for both halves of the day.

Answer: [34]

Have a nice "day" muahahahaha!

P.S.
You can't use the Phantasmoé clock to figure out this problem. We don't like 12 hr clocks :-p
